SINGAPORE: The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) will be conducting military exercises in several locations islandwide for a week from Monday (Jan 25). It will also be holding live firing exercises at the Pasir Laba (SAFTI) Live Firing Area during the same period.
In a media release issued on Saturday, MINDEF said that the areas affected by the military exercises are Ama Keng, Bedok Jetty, Hong Kah, Jalan Bahar, Jalan Kwok Min, Kranji, Lentor, Lim Chu Kang, Mandai, Marsiling, Neo Tiew, Seletar, Sembawang, Simpang, Tuas and Upper Jurong. The exercises will occur from 8am on Monday to 8am the following Monday (Feb 1).
In view of the Pasir Laba live firing exercises, MINDEF also said that sea vessels and crafts sailing through the Western Johor Straits during the specified period are to keep within the 75-metre Navigable Sea Lane and not to stray into the Living Firing Boundary.
Blanks and thunderflashes will be used during the military exercises, while the live firing exercises will involve the use of live ammunition and flares.
"The public is advised not to be alarmed and to keep clear of these areas," said MINDEF.
In the same release, MINDEF advised the public to keep clear of the prohibited waters off Changi Naval Base and Tuas Naval Base, as well as Pulau Sudong, Pulau Senang and Pulau Pawai as they are "proclaimed manoeuvring and firing grounds".
From Monday to Feb 5, the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) will be conducting a military exercise during which flying activities will be increased and loud noises experienced during aircraft transits to its training areas.
RSAF is also set to conduct live firing exercises in the areas surrounding the specified islands from Monday to Friday daily from 7am to 11pm, as well as on Saturday from 8am to 1pm. Flares will be released during the night firing, said MINDEF.
