Singapore's deployment to combat ISIS will number about 50 to 60: Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen -

SINGAPORE - The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) will be sending about 50 to 60 personnel to take part in the coalition efforts to combat the terrorist threat from the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen said on Monday.

His comments were made on the sidelines of the opening of the new training facility for the SAF's airborne troopers in Pasir Ris Camp.

"Our planning officers and liaison officers have gone to (United States) Central Command to be able to get a sense of what the mission requirements are and I would say the reaction to our involvement is a positive one," said Dr Ng.

Singapore's soldiers will operate from surrounding countries together with other coalition forces.

When asked if a definite date for deployment had been set, Dr Ng said the SAF was going to "synchronise" with coalition efforts - and no specific date was available yet.

Dr Ng had earlier said in Parliament that Singapore's efforts will include deploying a KC-135R tanker aircraft for air-to-air refuelling and an Imagery Analysis Team.

There will be no combat troops deployed.
