PE (Punggol East) is PE (Presidential Election) Part 2.
Tan Jee Say the vote-splitter also from SDP. Coincidence? I think not. 1 coincidence too many.
TJS is the only non ex-PAP party member in the 2011 PE candidate. The rest are ex member of the PAP.
I would say Tan Kim Lian is the vote splitter instead. Had he not participate in the PE 2011, the current president would likely to be TCB as votes given to TKL are more likely to be given to TCB given the nature of the profile. Such votes expressed a desire to pick somebody who is not so closed with the PAP, critical of the PAP perhaps.
35.20% president got 745693 votes
TCB got 738311 votes (34.85%)
TJS got 530441 votes (25.04%)
TKL got 104095 votes (4.91%)
Difference between 745693 and 738311 is 7382 - which is only 7% of TKL's 104095 votes.
With TJS commanding 25.04% of the vote, it is definitely not a vote splitter. 1/4 of the voters would represent a respectable block in itself.
