When I visited Sabah last year, there were so much chinese investment in rural areas. The whole Sabah was like sold to China like Cambodia.

Sandakan was nicknamed little Hong Kong. It had a bustling trade with southern Philippines
But security reasons, the silly gomen stopped the trade. So there is no reason to live in the city anymore. It's lifeline killed.

The state is fragmented with huge corruption issue.
The politicians cannot decide on building a power station due to coalition gomen. Nobody has supreme power.
No power means no water, no lights, no industry, no investment.
China companies coming up with all kinds of solar and battery storage solution for the state as solution for power shortage.
