June 30, Tianjin, China, Jixian commercial district - A major fire broke out at the Laide Departmental Store
on Saturday afternoon at about 4 o'clock resulting in 10 people killed and 16 people injured.
The fire swept through the five levels building rapidly due to the nature of its commercial businesses. Laide is
the main commercial centre for clothing, shoes, hats, textile, cosmetics businesses in Tianjin, North China.
It took more than 50 fire engines from the city's fire department to bring the blast under control by 8 pm in
the evening.
The cause of the fire is unknown. Local police and city officials are investigating.
