Man Photographed Up Teen's Dress At Selden Target: DA

A man was indicted on felony charges after allegedly photographing a 13-year-old girl’s intimate areas inside the Selden Target — weeks after he was accused of attempting to take photos up a 17-year-old’s shorts at the nearby ShopRite.

Aqeel Ahmad, 53, a Pakistani national, was indicted in Suffolk County Court Thursday, Dec. 4, amid allegations he crouched beside the teen in the card aisle of the Selden Target and held his phone near the hem of her dress, according to prosecutors.

The incident happened on Sunday, Oct. 19, when the girl was shopping with her father. The father told police he saw Ahmad crouched next to his daughter with his phone positioned near her bare leg, prosecutors said. When confronted, Ahmad allegedly fled.

According to the DA’s office, the father later spotted Ahmad sitting in a vehicle in the store’s parking lot and confronted him again, photographing the car and license plate before contacting police.

Officers arrested Ahmad and determined he had deleted an image of the victim’s intimate areas from his phone, prosecutors said.

Ahmad is charged with second-degree unlawful surveillance and tampering with physical evidence, both felonies, along with endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor.

Acting Supreme Court Justice Karen Wilutis ordered Ahmad to supervised release without bail because the charges are not bail-eligible under current New York law, meaning prosecutors cannot request bail and judges cannot set it.

If convicted on the top count, he faces 1⅓ to 4 years in prison.

In a separate incident at the Selden ShopRite in September, Ahmad allegedly tried to use his cellphone to photograph underneath the shorts of a 17-year-old girl while she shopped, police said. He was charged with second-degree unlawful surveillance in that case.
