ROMANIA Tells Singapore Garment To "GO FUCK YOURSELF". And They Are Correct!

Latest was that the whole Euro diplomatic community is concerned woh! Maybe even the whole Euro parliament needs to sit too! As if they don't have enough problems with Greece bankruptcy!

Re: 'Progress being made in Ionescu prosecution'

Just imagine if this is the other way round, our own diplomat kill somebody in Romania. Think our scums will not hesitate to dump this "guy" over to Romania. RIGHT!

[ST,May21,2010]: 'Romania 'doing its part''

Called to manage the Ionescu case only after >100days after the accident [link], no wonder that Mr Nayar says: "Obviously, more work needs to be done to make sure that this momentum may sustain, to make sure that there are no problems that crop up not just in terms of the case and investigations, but also in terms of the bilateral relationship."

U bet there wasn't any mutually coordinated pathway to resolution settled upon from the beginning.
Just lots of delayed 'love letters'.
And SG all along must have though 'we hit jackpot' after discovering VCDR A39.2 'in-our-favor' (thus the almost immediate Interpol notice after the coroner's findings were announced), but this was not to be as it was soon suspended after Romania's protests [link]. Its sad that despite 43 yrs worth of relationship [link] one-upmanship still rules the day.

No doubt, one of the first steps towards resolution would be SG's withdrawal of their unjustified and very 'undiplomatic' use of A39.2 [link]- before any meaningful talks can proceed.

The 'haloed' VCDR is not longer revered as a 'road-map' to harmony, but tool of conquest and contempt.

Sad, Sad.

Romania 'doing its part'

SINGAPORE'S special envoy to Romania has ended his visit to the country, and is convinced that its officials are doing their bit to ensure that suspended diplomat Silviu Ionescu is brought to book.
Mr Anil Kumar Nayar, Singapore's Ambassador to the European Union, arrived in Romania with other officials from the Republic's Attorney-General's Chambers on Tuesday.
Over the past four days, the team met key people in Romania handling the case, including prosecutors and officials from the Foreign and Justice ministries. It also expressed Singapore's serious intent to see justice served in the case.
Mr Nayar was sent to the country to help speed up Romania's investigations into Ionescu, the country's former charge d'affaires in Singapore who was found by a court here to be responsible for a hit-and-run accident that killed one and injured two along Bukit Panjang Road on Dec 15.
Speaking by phone from Romania, he told The Straits Times on Friday: 'So far, our own sense is that the Romanian officials dealing with this case are indeed trying their best to move the case forward towards an outcome whereby justice is served. That was the overall sense that we got from our discussions here.'
He added: 'Obviously, more work needs to be done to make sure that this momentum may sustain, to make sure that there are no problems that crop up not just in terms of the case and investigations, but also in terms of the bilateral relationship.'

Ionescu in another bid for release from detention in Romania
By Claudia Craiu | Posted: 17 August 2010 1819 hrs
Bucharest, ROMANIA : The Romanian Court is expected to decide on Wednesday whether former diplomat Silviu Ionescu can be released from detention, even as he faces trial.

Ionescu appeared in a Romanian court on Tuesday morning for a brief session in another attempt to seek his release from detention.

Tuesday's hearing was to review Ionescu's arrest warrant.

Ionescu's lawyer, Nelu Tasca, argued that the prosecutor does not have any evidence that can place the former diplomat at the scene of the crime when it allegedly happened in Singapore last December.

He argued that the prosecutor's indictment document had not named the key witness who had identified Ionescu as the driver during the coroner's inquiry in Singapore.

However, he did not expect a spectacular outcome from Tuesday's hearing. He plans to take the case to the Romanian Appeals Court if the diplomat's case for release is rejected by the court.
Ionescu had failed on August 6 in his appeal to be released from detention while he is on trial for two hit-and-run accidents in Singapore in December last year which claimed the life of a pedestrian.
He will be in court again on October 6, when his trial proceeds with four counts of manslaughter, causing injury, fleeing the scene of an accident and giving false statement.

...

With Ionescu's lawyer saying that the Romanian prosecutors haven't submitted statements of a Singapore "key witness", I'm worried about a screw up.

Dis is because I think that the SG game plan was all along to have Ionescu tried in SG, and so they invited the Romanian prosecutors to participate late. Also, I doubt SG's archaic legal system has provided the Romanian prosecutors with SG coroner's court witness testimony video footage which would be most realistic and useful for the Romanian court proceedings.

I hope SG MFA makes every effort to support the Romanian prosecutors in their efforts.

But all isn't lost, SG MFA can still fly the witnesses to Romania or better still, provide video link services so the trial can be conducted realistically, openly and without doubt nor hiccups.

Court extends Ionescu's arrest warrant

Title: Court extends Ionescu's arrest warrant
Source: Straits Times
BUCHAREST: A Romanian court yesterday kept Silviu Ionescu under lock and key as he awaits trial in connection with a hit-and-run accident in Singapore last year.
The former diplomat's arrest warrant came up for review yesterday and a lower court extended it.
Ionescu's attorney has appealed against the decision. It is expected to be heard by the Bucharest Appeal Court next Monday or Tuesday.
Failing the appeal, another review of his arrest warrant would be heard in 60 days, but his trial is expected to be under way before then.
The case is scheduled for Oct 6.
Ionescu, 50, is alleged to have hit three pedestrians in a double hit-and-run accident in Bukit Panjang on Dec 15 last year, when he was charge d'affaires of the Romanian embassy in Singapore.
One of them, Mr Tong Kok Wai, 30, died of his injuries more than a week after the accident.
The charges against Ionescu include culpable homicide, causing personal injury, making false statements and leaving the scene of an accident.
The maximum penalty, if he is found guilty of the most serious charge, is seven years in prison.
Yesterday's action means Ionescu will remain at a former maximum-security penitentiary near Bucharest.
The unit is no longer a correctional facility and is used mostly to house prisoners under arrest.
