One of the best songs to drink, talk cock and chill out with friends, reminiscing about 1970s Singapore...

About Tokyo Square
One of the pioneering bands of Singapore , Tokyo Square was formed in 1985 by Max Surin. Together with his sister, Linda Elizabeth, the band had many local girls swooning after the boys, while Linda enthralled everyone with her powerful vocals. However, it was only with their no.1 hit radio song, “Within You’ll Remain” with it’s unique blend of Chinese & Western instrumentation, famous “Wo Ai Ni (I love you)” chorus and catchy gu-zheng opening riff, that made Tokyo Square the talk of the town. Now in it’s 3 rd incarnation, Tokyo Square is still going strong with a new line up that includes Max’s son, Adam. And still, the band is determined to “keep it real & stay true to Tokyo Square’s blend of music”. Fans of Max & Linda can still catch them perform at the Holiday Inn & Swissotel The Stamford respectively. Tokyo Square is:

Max Surin (Vocals)
Linda Elizabeth (Vocals)
Adam Surin (Bass)
Mayuni Omar (Keyboards)
Fazli (Drums)

As far as I know, Gingerbread is a local band. Anyone knows?

Yes, we had a lot of local talents back then, when they started, they were doing covers of the bands from USA or UK etc.. There was an afternoon concert at the National Theatre back then, where uhead of bands played to a paying audiences. That is whre many of the local bands started, "Black Dog Bone", "Tokyo Sqaure", "Western Union Band" and so many others.

Not that fond of The Quests, they were just ok for me, even their Shanty etc..there was this cover, was it from Noami & the boys or? "Happy, happy birthday baby", Then there was Matthew & The Mandarins"...Anyway, Ministry of Culture back then, "FROWNED' on these local talents, & they were a lot of songs that were banned on the radio or even TV...many of whom I got to hear on radio these days...one of them was Bob Dylan "Mr. Tambourine Man", Peter Paul & Mary, "Puff The Magic Dragon", The Beatles " Lucy In the Sky With Diamonds", " With A Little Help From My Friend"...and many other.

It was Min of Culture...that killed many local talented bands...& never gave any support...

There is a band that impressed me from the 1990's "Culture Culture" http://www.culturevulture.per.sg/new_recordings.html where are they now?

100% a local band.

Moses and Chris Vadham are real talents that come once in a while. Sadly, Moses passed on in 2007.

And please, no racial slur replies anyone. Talent is talent, whatever race or creed...

Correct me if I am mistaken! I thought it was elder brother Chris who passed away in England. Hope Moses is still going strong!

Together they were the Roses of Sausolito. Real gems & great vocals! Ministry of Culture was sleeping then!

Ministry of Culture didn't care a damn they were stuffier than the Victorian's ladies in Petticoats & Knickerbockers! hmmm!!, remember the long hair will be served last...these were decadance music, not part of the cultures they were upholding. But, what cultures were they upholding, what a joke!, they managed to erase the four main ones...
