Riddle : When LHL meets Xi JinPing, does he speak in English or Chinese?

Just 2 days ago, LHL's delegation (including Vivian Balakrishnan) went to China to meet Xi Jinping.

If LHL speaks in English, never give Xi Jinping face.
If LHL speaks in Chinese, Vivian will give black face.
So how?

Notice the entire Sg delegation (video below) is all Chinese except for Vivian (does he speak Chinese? his wife is Chinese after all).
So is the translator there to translate LHL's English for Xi Jinping? Or to translate LHL's Chinese for Vivian Balakrishnan?



For official meetings, it's understandable that LHL (and the entire Sg delegation) will speak in English, even in China. But in 1 to 1 meetings between LHL and Xi Jinping, does LHL speak in English or Chinese?

I don't know what language they spoke in, but I would definitely have more respect for Xi Jinping if he could conduct an official discussion in English.
