SINGAPORE - A 62-year-old retiree was jailed for two months on Tuesday (Feb 16) for taking an upskirt video of a woman and attempting to insult the modesty of another.
Toh Beng Soon pleaded guilty to the two charges as well as having three obscene films for which he was fined $1,500.
A court heard that on Feb 23 in 2015, a 29-year-old insurance agent was on the escalator near McDonald's restaurant at Resorts World Sentosa (RWS), Sentosa Gateway, when she felt something touching the back of her knee.
She turned around and saw a man who quickly fled.
Through follow-up investigations by examining CCTV footages, it was revealed that the culprit was Toh. He had taken an upskirt video of the woman's inner thigh and underwear with his mobile phone.
On March 8 in 2015, a 35-year-old marketing director and her 44-year-old husband were taking the upriding escalator near the S.E.A. Aquarium at RWS when the husband saw Toh bending forward with his mobile phone held at a low angle.
The husband noticed that the phone's built-in camera light was switched on. He confronted Toh and had a scuffle.
Toh's phone was found to contain upskirt videos and photographs of unknown women saved in it. But he did not manage to record an upskirt video of the marketing director.
Toh also had three digital video files of sexual acts between him and unknown women which were classified as obscene.
Ten other charges of insulting modesty were taken into consideration.
He could have been jailed for up to one year and/or fined for insulting the modesty of a woman; and for the attempt, jailed for up to six months and/or fined.
