TANAH MERAH, March 3 (Bernama) -- A retired nurse was crushed to death in a hit-and-run accident when she was run over by three vehicles at the 71km Kota Baharu-Machang-Jeli road here this morning.
The impact of the accident caused 63-year-old Kamariah Osman''s legs to be severed in the incident about 7am.
At the time of the accident, Kamariah was crossing the road with her husband, Yahya Ahmad, 66, to a foodstall after performing dawn prayers at the Kampung Panglima Bayu mosque here.
Tanah Merah public order and traffic police chief Chief Inspector Zamri Mustaffa said the victim was among 36 people in a prayer group from Kemaman, Terengganu enroute to Kelantan on a bus.
He said, prior to the accident, the bus had pulled over to enable them to have breakfast across the road.
He said Kamariah''s husband was also hit and was warded at the Tanah Merah Hospital where he was recuperating.
