Do not sound like a comfortable retirement to me.

I think one need $5m cash to retire in Singapore.
To spend less in retirement is not a desire retirement.

You have poor financial sense. If you are frugal and live like the nun who retired, S$1m is enough to retire.
Basically you need to put the money in some investments that yield at least 5%... if you live like that nun S$50k a year is enough for a single person. Any returns above 5% just treat it as bonus.

Yes early retirement means you are able to up or at least maintain current lifestyle without having to work another day in your life.....if not unemployed also can claim to be retired.

$1 million is insufficient as there is no buffer for unforeseen and unplanned expenditure.

$3million to $5million is a more comfortable figure.

i agree with what you say too.

retirement means able to afford the stuffs that you like without any problems.

Let's say you wanna buy a Camera and you only feel comfortable using carl zeiss lenses... so you will able to afford it easily. This is called retirement.
