Singapore retail sales up for fifth month
Singapore's retail sales rose for a fifth month in July as consumers increased purchases of automobiles and clothing, an advance that may ease as the global recovery weakens and hurts sentiment.

Adjusted for seasonal factors, overall retail sales rose 2.1 per cent in July from June, when they rose a revised 1.7 per cent. The index measuring purchases excluding automobiles rose 10.7 per cent from a year earlier, after climbing a revised 10.7 per cent in June. Vehicle sales rose 4.8 per cent monthly.
The economy added 24,800 jobs last quarter, more than an earlier estimate of 22,800, the Ministry of Manpower said yesterday.
