Actually it is not that high considering the prices worldwide. This is an international pricing policy. In HK and US, same prices, thereabout.

Tickets to The Universal Studios theme park, which will open its doors to the public on 18 March at 8.28am, has gone on sale. -- ST PHOTO: ALPHONSUS CHERN

TICKETS for Universal Studios theme park went on sale at 9am on Wednesday morning.

Despite the morning rain, there were at least 20 people queuing in line at the box office in Resorts World Sentosa.

The overwhelming demand to book tickets on the phone and online caused the website to crash in the morning and the hotline was perpetually busy.

Engineer Basheer Hamid, 38, was unable to get his tickets and resorted to going down to the site office to get them.

He said: 'I started calling at 9am sharp on two different phone lines and didn't get to speak to anyone despite being on hold for half an hour. I tried the website but it was also down.'

The theme park is slated to open on March 18.

56-year-old man charged with stealing casino chips

SINGAPORE: A 56-year-old man was charged in the Subordinate Courts this morning for allegedly stealing S$5,000 worth of casino chips from Resorts World Sentosa.

Ooi Boon Huat, who is unemployed, allegedly committed the offence at a casino table on Wednesday at about 12.10pm.

He allegedly took 10 pieces of cash chips, which carried a face value of 500, which belonged to Resorts World Casino.

Mr Ooi, who was unrepresented by a lawyer on Friday morning, informed the Court he intends to claim trial to the theft charge.

The Prosecution informed the Court that the 56-year-old is also facing outstanding charges. These relate to drug-related offences and the possession of offensive weapons.

District Judge John Ng warned Mr Ooi to stay out of trouble between now and his pre-trial conference on March 30. But the accused insisted he did not commit the latest theft.

After the Judge repeated his warning to keep away from committing other offences, Mr Ooi insisted on his innocence and replied, "Just my luck."

If convicted for theft, Mr Ooi could be jailed up to three years and fined.

World's highest roller coaster shut down
March 26 2010

SINGAPORE (Reuters Life!) - Universal Studios Singapore has shut down the world's tallest dueling rollercoaster, and a major attraction, because of a technical problem, a mere week after the theme park opened.
The Battlestar Galactica, where two rollercoasters shoot off at the same time and loop around each other, will "only be opened when we have determined the cause and the solution," a spokeswoman said on Friday.

"The ride may be closed for several days or longer to perform a complete analysis. We understand some guests may be disappointed; however, the safety of our employees and guests remains our top priority," the park said in a statement.

The glitch at the rollercoaster, the flagship attraction of the new Universal Studios park, was found during daily pre-opening testing on Thursday.

The world's fourth Universal Studios welcomed its first visitors on March 18 with a lavish ceremony aimed at attracting luck, and repeat business, to the Singapore theme park.

The park is part of the $4.4 billion Resorts World at Sentosa, owned by a unit of Malaysia's Genting Group, which also has a casino and six hotels, and plans to lure 60 percent of its visitors from Southeast Asia, China and India.
