Republicans worried about Palin Tea Party appearances
Malaysia Sun
Wednesday 3rd November, 2010

The populist conservative political movement, Tea Party, which scored major victories in the mid-term elections on Tuesday, has obviously become a major force in US politics.

But some of the endorsements made by its de facto leader, Sarah Palin, during the mid-term elections had some negative results for Republicans.

Palin, who travelled coast to coast to endorse certain Tea Party candidates, had success with six of her selected Senate candidates winning on Tuesday.

The included favoured Tea Party candidates, Rand Paul in Kentucky and Marco Rubio in Florida.

But four others lost out to Democrats, including Delaware candidate Christine O'Donnell, one of the most heavily publicised candidates, and Sharron Angle, who was unable to unseat Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.

While Palin didn't campaign in person for either O'Donnell or Angle, she has had to defend herself against suggestions that Tea Party candidates hurt Republican chances in the Senate races in Delaware and Nevada.

Palin's endorsements also helped candidates like Haley and O'Donnell defeat Republican establishment favorites in the primaries.

Palin endorsed at least 41 House candidates who were on the ballot Tuesday.

22 of her choices won while 13 lost.

Palin has emerged as the de facto Tea Party leader in the US, and has urged Republicans to unify with Tea Party candidates into the next presidential election.
