Repairing of Mac book pro......

A friend just pass me his old mac book pro, those 13 inch type, maybe around 2 to 3 generation back. Told me got some issue with it, something like the speaker and trackpad problem, other then that it's working fine. He is getting himself a new one.....
He told me he recently just changed the hdd, saw at sim lim there is a pc clinic that does repairing, not sure whether if it is expensive, has any forumers ever sent their pic for repair?, any other place to send to for repair apart from sim lim?. Thanks!!.

The on-line ones are expensive....best, bring the unit there, let the guy take a look & get the quote on the spot & let the guy examine what is really wrong with the unit....& you decide what to repair or is to worth to repair...I have tried these on-line quotes people...when they see the unit & test later..will tell you, need to do this & do that..& the quotation gets marked up considerably...their excuse is, what you describe is not what the problem is..

Best, bring down in person... I have used Sim Lim Square 6th floor to repair a mac book pro....not too expensive & quite quick..the one I recommended Major Chai....not that I am promoting him..I find his service & analysis of any unit is fair & efficient....but like any computer repair man....cavet emptor!...

Actually Mac Book product are not that difficult to repair. These products are quite modular in their design, easy to dismantle and assemble.
The replacement parts are however proprietary and cost more than OEM.

PCPro is on the 6th level SLS maybe its the same unit.

Yes, many years back it was modular but buying parts that are specifically made for the unit is a problem....just for example, many moons ago, we tried ( I tried) to replace certain BRANDED PC, the HDD, the make & product number was the same, can be bought outside...when plug in, it does not work....even though tested at the shop where it was purchased, that goes for the video card too.... for example ABC brand, part no: A12345678....the unit in the Branded PC is...same ABC Brand, specs the same, part no: A12335678-1, the difference is the suffix behind -1 , you can guess some extra programming of the....whatever.

Get the idea....nowadays the parts are fused on to the Motherboard....I have long ago, stop assembling or even try repairing any computer unit I have....just too much hassle & takes too much time....just bring the f$#$$^^% unit to the repairer , ask a quote, if too expensive unit already so old...BUY A NEW ONE....or haggle the price down, get it going & later BUY A NEW ONE.

My Macbook Pro is having a problem with the mouse pad. Long term I'll probably will have to open it up & clean it up.

Not really an urgent problem since I am currently using a wireless logitech M510 mouse as a work around. You can get one from Amazon.

I seldom use the mouse in Macbook's....whether macbook, pro or..... each unit I buy usually come bundled with free wireless mouse, I have a collection of unopened wireless computer mice, plus a few free Magic mouse in their box unopened...I only have one Magic Mouse opened to test some Mac games...other than that, I use the track pad. That's the reason why I switched over to MAC...no need to remember to bring along my, trackball mouse, later my wireless mouse whenever I have to bring my notebook computer out.

Be careful about the track pad area...area better get it checked ASAP....let me relate my experience, I have a Macbook pro, bought new, this unit is a few generation back from current,it became a battered 'old horse'....insides all working fine, cover has plenty of dents ( was use travelling extensively, not by me though), the headphone port spoiled, I replaced it for $80....the battery charging unit conked out & later a new macbook was bought to replace the 'old horse' for it was an emergency & urgent work needed to be completed quickly. ( not me though)

After a new unit was purchased, he Macbook pro was left in storage for some time ( almost 2 years), I took it out sent in for checking & servicing & it was found to be working fine, a little slow...but still good; was meaning to give this to some deserving children in some less well off country...left it aside for another year, forgot all about it...then recent months toolkit out for a look, found out the track pad area buckled upwards & cracked open. I brought to the repair shop, they told me, its a common problem, the battery inside expanded....the cost of replacing the battery etc...might as well buy a new one...anyway, I sold the unit for $60.

My point is....do send the unit for a check...don't one day.."surprise!"..
