Renounication Questinnaires and Interview

Hi brudder out there,

Based on the info I have gathered, there is a round of interview plus a set of questionnaires you need to fill when you apply for the renounication. Can share abit on what are inside the questionnaires? What is the interview for? To persuade u to think twice about doing it?

What interview?

I know of a person who is highly educated with little money in CPF (stayed on after studies) and he is asked if he is interested to remain as "dual citizen". There is a more formal term used to imply the same thing.

For people who have money in CPF and state the reason of renounce is Withdrawal of CPF, they will not bother with those people. Even the application forms for renounciation sent to these people are badly photocopied.

Basically, the forms are as followed.
1. A form to state that you are not insane when you make the decision to renounce.
2. Details of yourself, education, past employment and current employment
3. Reasons of giving up SG citizenship
4. Details of your parents and siblings.

Adding on to Neddy's comments.

When filling up the questionnaires, especially those doing it in person, you need to have all details of siblings, immediate family, parents such as NRIC no. etc. Either plan to bring the forms back, have the necesary details available via phone etc.

The siblings and parents are the hardest especially those that are deceased.

this is exactly the kind of myth that we all hear, that dual citizenship is quietly allowed.

unless ICA gave that person a black & white document specifically allowing dual citizenship, else who & what is there to prevent ICA from charging that person later?

same thing with what happened to that naive MingYi monk. He verbally asked a high ranking MOM official if he can employ someone without work permit as his PA and that MOM official said it's ok. Look what happened at the trial? MOM said no such conversation ever took place and Ming Yi's PA has contravened his terms of visit...

So where does it say in black and white that dual citizenship is not allowed or prohibited. Ever heard of anybody since singapore's independence being charged for having dual or more citizenship.

It is up to you to trust the PAP to honour its words. So long as you do not cause trouble for them, they will keep their side of the deal.

As far as I remember, anything in black and white can also be taken out of context and re-interpreted in a broader definition.

it comes to no surprises that they have been closing one one eye on this policy. Do u remember the law against oral sex, gathering of more than 5 people in the public place, etc? what they had done is to provide a whole wide range of laws against these acts but whether to enforce it or not is another question. Unless u belong to the opposition parties that wish to make a public opinion about the politics, then u will see the police swinging in with full force to enforce the public gathering act. bottom line, the act is there, whether they want to prosecute u or not is up to the pleasure of the "head". i wont trust those politicians, they will turn on us singaporeans anytime.

You can't repeal or enforce something that does not exist in the first place.

Oral sex, gathering of 5 or more people etc are actually laws that were in black and white and appeared in the penal code and various laws acts published.

There has never been a law prohibiting holding more than one citizenship. Its only when people and kids started talking about family members who are elite holding other citizenship that others came to know of it.

Australia had law in black and white prohibiting dual citizenship until it was repealed. Singapore never had such laws in the first place. The PAP's usual stock line is that they do not encourage dual citizenship. People have assumed its a law. There are however laws to remove the singapore citizenship.
