As a boy, my parents introduced me to Nasi Padang in the early 1980s along Bras Basah Road on the site of the present day Hotel Rendezvous. The restaurant shifted to Raffles City in the 1990s, then to Hotel Rendezvous before returning to its current location at Central Mall in Robertson Quay in 2010. Like many such old school eateries, the quality has taken a nose dive while prices have climbed steeply, though I still patronise it from time to time. Please share your stories about Hock Lock Kee.

What? Chinese nasi padang? The nerve!
Rendezvous is a legend. Oldest nasi padang eatery in Singapore. Been frequenting that place since the early '70s. Founded by Indonesian Chinese. More authentic than the nasi padang served by Malays, who know nothing about bumbu rempah.

But sadly, standards started dropping 2 decades ago. Hardly go there these days.

These days, Hock Lock Kee is high on price, but low on spice.

More of our legends will disappear if we do not support them. Remember Lee Tong Kee Ipoh Hor Fun?

Totally bland, watered diwn version of what i used to know. Not worth the visit if not for the nostalgia. I tried recently after many years. Total disappointment. And super expensive. Just go eat makchik version at hawker centre is good enough .

My lasting memory of Hock Lock Kee as a child were the western saloon style swing doors at the entrance and the glass display of the nasi padang dishes. Even though the standard has dropped significantly since those good old days, I return because it reminds me of those days when I ate with my parents as a little boy.
