Hey guys, I saw a post on ACS Indep students yesterday and had a similar experience last week, so I decided to share too. Was in the Chagee queue at Star Vista after school, just minding my own business waiting to collect my drink. A group of ACS Indep students stood behind me, and honestly the way they were talking made my blood boil a bit. One of the guys complained super loudly that he had to take the MRT, saying, and I quote verbatim: "circle line at 5pm is like a human landfill," and the girl next to him just laughed and said it's how normal people have to travel but thankfully they didn't have to. Then came the part that really annoyed me, one of the girls said, “I don’t get how people can study in schools next to HDBs, it’s so depressing, no aircon lecture theatres, no auditorium, I would die,” and her friend nodded like it was the most reasonable thing ever. And then, as if to prove a point, one of the boys passed his empty plastic cup from some other shop to the staff clearing tables and went, “throw this for me” even though the bin was literally right beside him. I even heard one girl complaining about how she might have to cancel her yacht birthday party because her parents were using the yacht for clients. I got my drink and left but honestly I’ve never felt so secondhand annoyed (if that's even a term) by some teenagers I don't even know.

Neighbourhood school students believe that life is a zero sum game i.e. that wealth in S'pore is finite; meaning they falsely assume that another person's immense wealth directly causes their own financial limitations, or that academically inclined students benefit from the educational system in an elite school which will set them up for life, while they will never get out of their hole because they are not in ACS, RI or HCI. This is just life in a meritocratic society. That is all!
