Polyclinics vs Private GPs - Cost

General

I have a question about the variation in costs between the two.

The average consultation charge for polyclinic is around $18 (at least for me). CHAS cards are not applicable to poly bills as poly is already highly subsidised. When i had to collect medication, I recall the bill being $33, non antibiotics.

Today, I went to a private GP and paid $23 for antibiotics and cough syrup. Blue CHAS applicable. Also got to pay using CDC.

What's the situation here? Why is a private GP much cheaper these days?

EDIT: From what i know, CHAS subsidises $18.50 for common illneses. So thats what got deducted off my private GP bill. But still, it's not an astronomical gap from my poly bill

if on single shot customer, can consult any clinic
but on long term treatment, better to go for polyclinic
