New-ish scam call type: Scammer pretending to be from SingCERT

Discussion

Received a new (to me) type of scam call today and thought it might be good to share about it since I don't see many reports about this particular scam.

The scammer is using a local mobile number and claims to be from Singapore Cyber Emergency Response Team (SingCERT). He had knowledge of my first name and mobile number and tried to "verify" it.

Afterwards, the scammer then alleges that your mobile number was flagged in Malaysia for sending out SMSes about fake job postings.

I was rushing for a meeting so didn't bother finding out how he proceeded after. I threatened to call SingCERT on my other phone while he was on the line and the scammer then hung up.

Stay safe!

Much better than the useless stupid scam sometime back whereby the scammer called me up and asked “hey how are you?”

When I asked for his name, he responded “how come you can’t remember me? You guess who I am.”

Lol idiot. Why will I have any idiotic friends who call up and ask me to guess who they are. They assume everyone so stupid anyhow guess a name and they can then assume the identity?

A woman who spoke in fluent English called me claiming to be from DBS, but when I wished to meet with her in person at the nearest branch to my home, she seemed flustered. Then she asked me for my address, but I replied that if she from DBS, and got my phone number from the bank's database, then she should know my residential address. She hung up after that.

At least they upgraded by getting an English speaker instead of some useless Tiong. Which local bank will send a Chinese speaker to call up customers?

I received a SMS recently warning me that I have not transacted on my Dash app for more than 1 year, and if I don't make a transaction by 28 Feb 2026, I have to pay a dormancy fee every month. This deduction would be from my Dash wallet and my account terminated after the balance hits zero. Beware of this scam.

If it’s female I’ll describe sexual acts with her. They usually hang up fast
