Is cancer treatment in Singapore government hospitals usually this slow?
GeneralMy father was diagnosed with stomach cancer almost 4 weeks ago, and until now, we still have not received the treatment plan. We are waiting for the final biopsy results from one of the lymph nodes before the doctors can confirm the staging - likely 3 or 4.
This is stressing me out because every appointment gets pushed by another week since they only give the next available slot. I feel like the entire process keeps getting delayed again and again.
I understand hospitals in Singapore are busy, but when dealing with cancer, everything feels very time-sensitive. At this rate, I estimate it may take around 6 weeks from diagnosis before actual treatment even starts.
A friend told me her mother was treated in a government hospital and it took over 3 months before treatment started. During that time, the cancer progressed significantly to stage 4 and she passed away very quickly after.
I was also reading that in some countries like France, Germany, and Switzerland, treatment timelines are often around 2 weeks, and the longer end is usually around 4 weeks. So I’m honestly trying to understand what is considered normal in Singapore.
For those who have personally gone through cancer treatment in Singapore government hospitals, or had family members go through it, how long did it take from diagnosis to the first chemo, surgery, or treatment? Did you wait 5–6 weeks, or did you end up waiting for months?
I really hope to hear some opinions or experiences from other Singaporeans because I honestly feel quite desperate for answers right now.
