How do you guys actually sustain eating healthy (cooking at home) without losing your mind to grocery logistics?
GeneralThrowaway account. I (22F) grad student, have been living here for about three years, and I’m hitting a wall with my diet.
We all know surviving on hawker food is by far the cheapest way to live in SG, but I am desperately trying to eat healthier. The daily cai png oil and chicken rice carbs are just not sustainable for my body anymore. I want to start cooking and meal prepping just to control what actually goes into my food.
The problem is the logistics. Going to NTUC Fairprice, buying a week's worth of healthy proteins, veggies, and pantry staples, and lugging those heavy bags back after a long day of classes is honestly damn sian. Plus, buying "healthy" ingredients feels like it comes with a massive markup here.
Recently, I've been looking into alternative options like Shopee Supermarket or shipping heavy non-perishables to the delivery lockers just to save my sanity and maybe get cheaper bulk prices so I don't go broke trying to eat a vegetable.
Before anyone tells me I should just wake up at 7am on a Sunday to go to the wet market, or take a feeder bus to Sheng Siong, I physically don't have the time or energy with my schedule to fight aunties for produce. And no, I am not paying $18 for a Sweetgreen-style salad on GrabFood.
How do you guys realistically plan and manage healthy home cooking? Do you actually use Shopee/lockers to bypass the heavy lifting and supermarket tax, or is there a completely different hack I'm missing for healthy meal prep?
edit: I am in fact NOT a bot. Yes, lockers for perishable food are a thing in Singapore.
