Has the Middle East war exposed SG unpreparedness in energy security and sustainability?

Discussion

The current on-going war between US/Israel vs Iran had exposed the high dependency of countries to fossil fuels especially those in Asia. Looking at the renewable energy rankings of various countries, I can't help but find it astonishing that for a small country with absolutely no natural resources, when it comes to renewable energy, Singapore's total renewable energy generation is abysmal.

Is this a sign of poor strategic planning? As a small country without natural resources, it would be logical, sensible and rational for Singapore to shift aggressively towards green sustainable energy sources. Considering the price of solar panels had fallen drastically such that it is now actually cheaper to produce electricity via solar panels than fossil fuels, it is strange why we don't take advantage of renewables.

One possible reason is the lack of space. However, someone had pointed out the abundant of rooftops. Another possible reason is the lack reliable sources of energy such as sunlight due to clouds and strong winds for turbine generators.

My personal observation indicated that the main reason is that we do not have a culture of sustainability as a nation. We are creatures of habit. From the 90s, our economic strategy had been to grow at all costs while the times are good. This same mentality is now hindering our adoption of renewable energy.

What do you guys think?

I remember during the wuhan virus lockdown, our lovely garhmen gave us seeds to grow our own vegetables or something like that right??? Some seeds for you and you are on your own isn't that right???
