Genuine questions by someone who rarely takes Grab.

General

I rarely take grab, my feet were giving me problems this morning and I took a grab to work.

I live at Kovan and I work at Cecil street? The fee stated was $25. I got on the Grab no problem, the grab driver then proceeds to turn in to KPE at the time it's $5 (ok, you know what.. I work in town pay ERP fine).

After we went through the ERP, I told the uncle no more ERP, he doesn't acknowledge... I told him again, he say he is following the GPS... (Thinking we are already in the KPE okay la, don't argue with him) - The GPS proceeded to take an exit out at the PIE when we encountered a second ERP ($3) then a third ERP ($5) entering the CTE.

Firstly, should I be on my phone tracking the route the grab driver is taking?

Secondly, I read online he is probably following the GPS but why wouldn't the app just take more straightforward road KPE / MCE - then Cecil Street. It wouldn't be THAT much faster you save what 3 minutes? Instead it took me through 3 toll roads.

Lastly, do I have to tell the driver explicitly how I want to be taken?

He didn't have to follow the GPS. Singapore is a peesai and that there's really no need to rely on it. Even if he had taken a different route from the one originally suggested, the GPS would have automatically recalculated and provided a new route based on where he was.
