Do you work for money or prestige/identity?

Unfortunately, I feel alot of people I work with pegged their worth to how much they make from job or the status they hold by working in certain prestigious company.

I work in finance and most of colleagues hold high ranks and high paying jobs. I struggle to relate with them and that sense of pride of working as I work for money purely to survive. I think I am too much of a realist.

I really find these people are fooled if they pegged their identities, pride and status to their jobs. They are simply a cog in the machine, easily replaceable. Somehow, holding a high paying job give them this illusion that they are some respectable biggie in the society.

I feel a big disconnect with them I want to shut off from them during lunch. Does anyone feel the same?

Sorry for my senseless rant.
