Bus driver threatened to fine me $500 and refused to let me off the bus over a chagee I didn't even drink?

so this happened today - i took the GREEN bus home and i was holding my chagee the whole ride, cup was already empty (didn't get the chance to throw it away before boarding the bus). maybe i put the straw to my mouth out of habit at some point but i genuinely don't remember actually drinking anything besides using my phone the whole time.

anyway when i tapped out to alight, the doors just... didn't open. i was geninuely confused like what happened and i had my earphones in. i looked at the driver and realised he was SHOUTING at me. turns out he was accusing me of drinking on the bus and told me and he was gonna fine me $500 for it, and threatened not to open the door for me to alight lol

i told him i didn't drink it and he just kept insisting he saw me do it with his own eyes. i had zero way to prove otherwise and i felt so put on the spot in front of other passengers. honestly, i just felt trapped and harassed at that point. i wasn't trying to fight the rule or anything, i was just so caught off guard by how he handled it, like full on confrontation, refusing to let me off, insisting he was right when i genuinely wasn't sure myself???

i get that drivers have to enforce the no eating/drinking rule, but there's a way to do that without publicly accusing someone and literally holding the bus doors hostage until they cave. it just felt so unnecessary and honestly kind of humiliating.

has anyone else had something like this happen to them? am i overreacting or what lol but seriously… took so many buses w chagee but nvr got publicly shouted at for it lol…

I trust the bus driver's version.

This bus driver should be commended. Next time hoot all those who play hand phones loud loud.

If that commuter doesn't want to be falsely accused, he shouldn't give the driver any opportunity to falsely accuse him. By putting the straw into his mouth, he invited the accusation.

All bus stops have a trash bin. He could've thrown it before boarding the bus. Unless the cup was really not empty.....

i had zero way to prove otherwise and i felt so put on the spot in front of other passengers.
Not a single passenger stepped forward to support him ? That means guilty lah.
