Lloyd's Inn
Lloyd's Inn has been through some major renovations and is pretty upmarket now. But the location still feels like a "short-time" outlet.

York or holiday inn express.
I used to park my car "free" at York Hotel which is outside CBD, then cut across Mt Elizabeth into the heart of Orchard Road. Another hotel that offered the same "loophole" was the ex Cockpit Hotel.

Exacting demands, your YMCA already's spot on. Can try this Hangout (next to Istana:cool:) on Mt Emily, owned by Cathay Organisation. No frills though

Get real, real estate in Orchard vicinity doesn't come cheap. A decent sub 200 bucks steal smile liao
since i’m loso i’ll first look at orchard hotel availability and rates. sometimes sub 200. next is concorde. there’s an all you can eat peranakan restaurant at concorde for sub 30. hotel rates are loso type since many lesser mortal regional tourists stay there.

Honestly I think Singapore hotels are quite expensive even for buget. Coming from Thailand I’m really not used to the prices here in Singapore and of course I cannot based on prices here in Thailand to compare.

Anyway I always choose Carlton whenever I have to stay in a hotel in Singapore because for $200-300 including tax it’s a steal compare with the other with the same level of amenities and services and location is great close to CityHall Station.

Carlton started off as an economy hotel when it was first built. I believe the prices of the rooms went up after a series of tourist spots sprung up in the vicinity - the casinos, Garden by the Bay, Helix Bridge, Esplanade etc. The entire hotel went through some major renovations and upgrade, and after that the prices have become more expensive than the hotels along Scotts Road except Goodwood Park.

I will opt for Rendezvous Hotel along the same stretch for a much lower price. But I understand the restaurant or cafe @ Carlton is pretty popular.

There are still a number of hotels in Orchard vicinity going for $150 - $200. It's getting below $150 that requires some research, and the ones nearer to the $100 mark is a challenge.

A hidden gem in Orchard vicinity. If foreign dignitaries need security coverage @ Shangrila, rest assured you too will be covered:
