..The King's implicit and explicit moves were laid out bare to the people to judge. Paul Handley's book is banned in Thailand and could not have influence the Thai societies as such but the uproars over the lese majeste law has been an awakening of sort to the ordinary folks.
Suddenly, people from all walks of life were interested in his kingly's faults and tongues started to wag and more and more formerly "unprintables" articles began to come out in the open

But how does one know if another is an opportunist? That is the real question.

Sporean should never trust any one person or party with absolute power

My Thai friend is suspicious of Thaksins motives & thats why his quip about Thaksin trying to be like LKY. Many Sporeans were/are guillible & allowed LKY to "fix" Sporeans until now. Unfortunately they gave him all theses years to consolidate his power, the media, the judiciary, the civil service are all now under his thumb.

My non-Sporeans friends are more practical & know that politicians can't be trusted. It is just a reflection of the pragmatism that exists in Asia, except in Spore where there alot of brainwashing taking place. That's why elections in Malaysia, Indonesia, & Thailand, got some fight & not like Spores where the PAP has complete control.

OH yes... Very well put out. I can spot a sinkie by just one look on his face. Thaksin behave like a sinkie, no doubt.

But there are also unsinkified ex-singaporean who are practical and know a sinkie when he sees one.

the only reason behind thailand's stability is $$..

both red & yellow :smile:armies are paid to riot.. nothing political for the rioters.. just $$.

i wun be surprised if a single person can be a red and yellow rioter at the same time, depending on the flavour of the month..

why the red lose steam so quickly? poor people cannot afford to protest for long....

It is not poor pple who cannot afford.

The very fact that these red support a sinkie. Anything to do with a sinkie will end in tragedy.

The Thais are very unsinkified people and will know a sinkie when they see one.

Thais ok with corrupted government

A latest survey reveals that many Thai people would accept a crooked government if it can make the country prosper and raise their standard of living.

The Abac Poll Research Centre conducted a survey on people's well-being, involving 1,228 households in 17 provinces nationwide.

84.5 per cent viewed that corruption in businesses would not be unusual and 51.2 per cent said they would tolerate a corrupted government if it can improve the country and their well-being.

73.9 per cent agreed that living self-sufficiently can help ease the economic crisis.

On the continuing border dispute between Thailand and Cambodia, 84.6 per cent wanted both sides to negotiate peacefully and jointly improve the regional economy. 4.8 per cent wanted either side to use force to solve the problem.

52.9 per cent supported the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship's anti-government rallies under the condition that they must be held peacefully.

16.3 per cent said they would support the UDD unconditionally. 21.1 per cent opposed the group.

And on the bit regarding red shirts political force to be reckoned with, latest by-election they won big.

Democracy will not work in south east asia. Best stick to monarchies, iron-fisted dictatorships, communism and/or some radical religon.
Remember human civilisation began in the temperate belt so that we northerners can come to the tropics for summer holiday.

White Fucks from inferior and younger civilizations sure love to talk real big. Is your mouth really big enough to take it all in from me? I wonder.

The Crown Prince of Thailand is worried when ex premier Tharksin is the government. He knows very well that Thaksin does not support him and had no respect for the Royal family. His way to the throne is being threaten if Tharksin is in control of Thailand

Thaksin is pretty popular in Thailand. Crowds of people really gathered and cheered when he returned. It may seem that the Thai Monarchy will be overthrown eventually.

The only worry is how they would be overthrown. I mean, after being removed from even constitutional power would they all be able to flee, or would them be sent to the guillotine like the French monarch and his family or will they all be brutally murdered like their Nepalese and Russian counterparts?

You got that right, bro....It wasn't a surprise at all.

They were the one who came up with the slogan "same same but different" and only they can say that with a straight face, hahahah...

They keep changing their minds that, in the middle of something, they would have forgotten what they really set out to to in the first place and they probably end up doing exactly what they were opposing in the first place.

73.9 per cent agreed that living self-sufficiently can help ease the economic crisis.

Something is still very lost here as the percentages show that three quarters of them are still willing to be slaves. Education in Thailand means they cannot break free from the feudalism that has been imposed on them.Living self-sufficiently to them means 2 meals a day and 150 bahts pay. Maybe this time they will change their minds again and see through the hidden hands of the palace, who wishes to see them static and backward, thus more malleable to the wishes of the ruling classes. Living off the land had gone through their heads but as they urbanise, the future for the Thai monarchy isn't that rosy at all.

Thaksin had gone overboard , being very corrupt, evaded tax, he now is DESPERATE to challenge the monarch,,,
anyone read the political history of Thailand knows that the King is still the ultimate ruler..and the army is still absolutely royal to the king...
can Taksin succeed...answer is NO...the thai people accept military coup like any sunday outing,,,bcos they know ultimately the King choose who he wants to be his prime minister...Thai people knows and respect their king ..that they can accept coup with no qualm at all...
DONT let those western media to fool you that the Thai people love democracy than their King and their culture and tradition...deep in every Thai,,they are fiercely loyal to their kingdom and culture,,,....Bad luck for the evil devil Thaksin..who try to stir up a revolution against the Manarchy....he shall fail..as Thai history had proven that again and again..

History is written by the victor and not the defeated. So far I see, the claims about his corruption is really flaw. Does taking care of the poor means bribing the poor? It does in the "used to be" opposition's context. In a way, they claim that the poor should not entitled free clinical care, the poor are not entitled to loans.

Seriously which Thai Government in the past was not corrupted. Taksin was pick because his opponents want him removed.

Thaksin was fucked because he was too gungho. The outcome would have been much different if he had bide his time. He was a man in big hurry. Wanted to emulate LKY, indeed. If he had taken his time to smell the roses to while away his time waiting for the old king to die, he would be Thailand's first president. He had had the army 's top brass in his pocket, with most being his old classmates and the crown prince was his hatchet man in business, legal or otherwise. But no, he had to count his chickens before they hatched and thus was caught short and found wanting. He was so idolised by the poorer populace by his straight forward policies in uplifting them from abject poverty that if a referendum was called by 2004, he would be the new ruler and can starts his Thaksin's Dynasty.....

He really squandered his chances away...
