A SINGAPORE navy warship is said to have damaged an underwater cable at a Darwin naval base after the vessel's anchor became entangled in the power line.

The RSS Tenacious, a 141m-long stealth frigate from the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN), had been taking part in sea drills off the coast of Australia's Northern Territory before the incident occurred.

After the six-day maritime exercise ended last Friday, the warship anchored in Darwin Harbour.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Defence yesterday, port authorities informed crew members of the Tenacious on Friday afternoon that the warship might be anchored 'too close to some underwater cables'.

Mindef spokesman Desmond Tan said: 'The Royal Australian Navy Port Services advised RSS Tenacious to relocate to a new anchorage position.'

When crew aboard the frigate attempted to retrieve the anchor in the afternoon, they found it had become tangled with an underwater cable, Colonel Tan said.

i went up to that ship in naval open house this year. HA HA they screw up.
now have to pay for repairs.

it is not cheap, the special ship have to go there, very expensive naval diver have to go down and attach hook and cable to the broken cable, raise to top and repair. The cost may be higher than salary of whole crew of that french design ship.

im in shipping industry. those who know about the rsn courages case will shake their head about the standard of the OOW in our navy. too young, too inexp and too arrogant. navy may have the legal power to supersede international Rules Of The Route, but its the basic for every deck officers in the whole world!!! its the cardinal safety rules of navigation!!! and they even dare to defend that butch looking OOW that she never follow because navy got the legal power to supersede the international ROR!!! what the fuck!!! :oIo: now even the best!!! OOW dont even know how to read chart!!! dont even know about a submarine cable below!!! how can that be!!! its all on the chart!!! who make the decision to anchor there??? even its a dragging anchor situation, what the fuck is those anchor watch doing??? :oIo: 真的是丢脸丢到外国去!!!

What to do, we have that 'we are the best mentality', we are greater than the world, we do not have to adhere to International Maritime Laws, WE ARE RSN... or the crew were playing computer games on their screens...

What ro do, we have a myrearAdm 'no porn' lui, in his hometown , Telok Kurau, SINgapore, see a minor accumulation of water while driving, reversed his car & go home; what do you expect a standard from a Naval man... too expensive to get his feet wet...sorry, missed his free breakfast he was expecting also..:D

Must be SAF Cho Boh Lan and do fishing on their million dollar boats. Then they realized they fished out a super big-catch which is cable!:D
