YOU have probably seen them while waiting for a bus outside an MRT station.
HDB bed space for rent

Palm-sized, handwritten fliers - with mobile phone numbers on detachable strips at the bottom - stuck onto notice boards, and offering HDB rooms for rent.
But take a closer look at some of them and you may notice that instead of rooms, bed spaces are being offered for rent.
The New Paper checked out the notice boards at more than 10 bus stops outside MRT stations islandwide. We found many fliers, usually printed in Chinese, advertising bed spaces in HDB flats.
In recent years, there have been media reports of condominium apartments being partitioned to create extra space to hold beds, so they can be rented out to foreign workers or even tourists.
But bed spaces for rent in HDB flats is a new phenomenon. On some fliers, the advertisers are more discreet - they offer "shared rooms" for rent.
Some Chinese nationals explained the terms to The New Paper: A bed space usually refers to either the top or bottom bunk of a bunk bed.
A shared room means four to eight people crammed into a room.
One flier offered up to "seven or eight bed spaces" for rent. We found out later that it was a three-room flat. But isn't the landlord flouting HDB rules?
