Raffles and Hwa Chong still have crazy low PSLE cutoff points for entry, sigh

RI is too cocky, Hwachong is like PRC school now.

If your kids can qualify for these schools, there are better alternatives.

Just go to a neighbourhood school if you are not exam-smart enough. Preferably one near your residence, so you are spared the hassle of commuting.

Or go to a 'midrange' premium school e.g. River Valley High.

But it's located in the shithole of Jurong West / Boon Lay now.

Once upon a time it was located at the Teban Gardens area, the current location of Commonwealth Secondary School (where a corner of its campus has been earmarked for Jurong Region Line MRT construction).

I remember that because many of my primary school PSLE classmates went to River Valley, one time they had a performance (open house?) event there, and former primary school classmates who went to other secondary schools were invited to attend.

Even in my normal school, better students will be housed in the same class. This is to make the class easier to teach and learn. Imagine there is no unwanted attention from students, teachers will be able to "teach". Where else in a not so good class, there will be endless distractions. Alot of time will be wasted teaching these students. Consequence will be less teachings and poor results.

Can't blame Hwa Chong or Raffles for having low cut off points.

DAR ES SALAAM – Singapore will negotiate a free trade agreement with a bloc of eight East African countries, its first with an African partner.

President Tharman Shanmugaratnam said on June 9 that the Republic welcomed the East African Community’s (EAC) intention to pursue such a pact, which would improve trade flows between the economies and open up new areas of growth.

This would also be the regional bloc’s first FTA negotiation with a partner outside Africa.
