Quora : Do you think being snobby is a sin?

The term "snobbery" did not emerge until the 19th century, long after Jesus was crucified and roughly 2 to 3 centuries after the biblical canon had been established. Although the word is relatively modern, the attitude it describes is as old as humanity itself. Snobbery is a form of pride: you can be proud without being snobbish, but you cannot be snobbish without first being proud. What distinguishes snobbery from ordinary pride is that it derives its satisfaction not merely from possessing something of value, but from possessing more of it than others or from belonging to a group regarded as superior: for instance, taking pride in being among the top 10% of the population. So, is snobbery a sin? You're asking the wrong question. The real question is whether pride is a sin, because snobbery is nothing more than pride in disguise.
Envy is far worse than being snobbish. A condo and car owner is able to pay for comfort and convenience for his family; nothing else. However, he is often envied by others who cannot afford these 2 possessions. To justify their jealousy, such people claim to dislike the car and condo owners because they are "snobbish", but in actual fact, the hatred stems from pure envy.
