Quality Of Life.....your take

yes this sums it up nicely.

NW, this is my frank opinion (from an retiree or semi-retiree)
Quality of life regardless of single or married or divorced means:

1. Not having to worry about month end rental/mortgage, credit card, electricity, car and all non-ending list of other payments.
2. Enough money and time to indulge in your favorite hobbies, be it healthy/unhealthy or expensive/cheap ones.
3. And most important, a healthy mind where you know you are not robbed everyday by the garberment.

Never describe about the monetary value because think it's meaningless or numb to many.

Sorry need to start another thread.

it seems everyone got different views when it comes to acceptable expenditure in sinkieland.

i might have came across as saying money and nothing else improve the quality of life.......

ok so lets try another route.....

What is your take on the acceptable quality of life for you and your family.

Everyone knows we are not at the swiss standard yet, but where are we at and what you aspire it to be.

Is it like $800 mat's 2 roomer existence or a PS's french cuisine training?

I have a different take in quality of life.

If i can serve others through my good quality work and as a person as well.
( i read some of the forums here and understand the character and style of some forum bros here , i think bro Wuqi fits to this description)

Money, happiness, comfort in all aspect will follow.

I believe that many problem arise from people's self-centred point of view. If a person can get rid of it and serve others selflessly. Then all other good qualities will appear in front of you.
Of course, when serving others , i do not mean with a self-centred condition or even having the motive of life good rewards come to you. Just serve and hope the others can benefit from you work, improve on it and be even better.

Just for a single person living alone:

Pay rent/mortgage = S$1,000+/- p.m.

Pay PUB = S$100+/- (if got aircon S$200+/-) p.m.

Buy car = S$100,000+/- lump sum or S$1,000 p.m.

Road tax & insurance = S$2,000+/- p.a.

Parking, Petrol & ERP = S$50+/- p.d.

Don't buy car also can, EZlink card = S$100+/- p.m.

Take taxi also can, budget = S$1,000+/- p.m.

That's not including eating, drinking, smoking, phone and internet yet!

Looking at the breakdown you provided, I'm beginning to admire Alamaking.

the following are cases I know personally.

couple 1 - 1.2 mil apt, 90% loan with remainder from bridging loan. loan period 35 years. Double income no kids. both are in mid 30s, both employed, est income 11k per mth.

couple 2 - also mid 30s, due to biz and spending, managed to borrow 100k from friends to tide over banks chasing. another 250k owing to biz partner. now still living 3.5k rental condo. only 1 working, wife is behaving like tai tai with young kid.

standard of living now is good. but once jobs is lost, the cards will come crashing down.

Think this one only achievable when one's basic needs are taken care of.

Have been doing this at a local orphanage for sometime. Me not that holy but makes me feel better, especially the smiles from the children when I brought back 40KG of used clothes/toys/stationary collected from friends and relatives in Sinking land. There are people who say I 'siao' to pay for the additional overweight lugguage.

Quality work I mean professional work and it can be charitable work as well.
If people can produced sincere quality work at professional level. Then money, Happiness, social bliss, personal fullfillment and many positive outcomes can be reached easily. This also refers to achieving basic needs.
