SINGAPORE: Train services in both directions on the North East Line (NEL) are delayed due to a power fault.

Train operator SBS Transit said no service is available between Dhoby Ghaut and HarbourFront stations.

It said free bus rides are available at designated bus stops.

Channel NewsAsia team observed that signboards at HarbourFront indicate that train service is expected to resume at about 4:30pm.

SBS Transit first alerted commuters via SMS at about 10am, saying there had been a delay of 15 minutes due to a power fault.

It said at about 10:30am that shuttle services were activated at designated bus stops to provide free bus rides.

In a statement at about 11:00am, SBS Transit said engineers have traced the power fault to wires in the Overhead Catenary System in a section of the tunnel between Outram Park and HarbourFront.

To enable repair works to be conducted, train services were disrupted at 10:14am.

SBS Transit, which apologised to all affected commuters for the inconvenience caused, said it hopes to get the NEL up as quickly as possible.

The situation appears orderly at the stations late Thursday morning. At HarbourFront station, Channel NewsAsia team saw signboards, which have been put up to inform commuters of the service disruption.

Announcements are also being made asking commuters to find alternative modes or to use the free bus bridging services.

Goodwill Ambassadors from SBS Transit are also advising and directing commuters on where to go.
