With the latest adjustment, a litre of 92, 95 and 98-octane petrol at Caltex and ExxonMobil stations now costs $1.817, $1.877 and $1.96 a litre. Diesel at the two networks costs $1.333.

TWO out of four pump operators here have upped petrol and diesel prices as crude oil reached its loftiest level since the world went into a financial tailspin in October 2008.

Caltex made the first move at noon on Monday, raising pump prices by three cents a litre across the board. It was followed by ExxonMobil, the biggest operator here, at 2.15pm.

The other two companies - Shell and Singapore Petroleum Co - are likely to follow suit soon.

The rates - the highest since last August - are before discount.

The pump price increase was the fourth since February, following 18-month-high crude oil prices.

Crude oil hit US$85.87 a barrel last Thursday, its highest level since October 2008, as US employment figures begin to strengthen.
