Buddhism has Vesak Day.
Islam has Hari Raya.
Christianity has Christmas Day.
Hinduism has Deepavali.

How come Taoism isn't given a Public Holiday in Singapore?

Taoism has two, the two days of LNY. For those who don't know or don't remember, Taosim laid claim to four, to each of the four seasons. Spring (LNY), Summer (7th month), Autumn (mooncake) and Winter (noodle ball soup). Original Taoists as founded by Lao Tze was based on morals and nature, hence celebrating the seasons. There were no gods and ghosts. It was simply come from nature, live by morals of nature and go back to nature.

Hindus used to have two, Deepavali and Thaipusum. Thaipusum was later degazetted as public holiday as it usually turned violent. Muslims have two, Aidilfitri and Haji and Christians have two, Good Friday and Christmas.

Really, if Muslims are not converting to Taoists, there's nothing much I can do. Cheers!

True. As Taoists, they can eat pork, consume alcohol, and ask for 4D numbers from their gods.

A close friend of mine, he's Catholic, once said to me he wished his mother didn't convert to Christianity. He can't go to church and ask for 4D numbers.

Cheers!

In a recent survey on Chinese, if they will to credit with a holiday
which one will they choose, most of them choose Mid Autumn Festival.
Me too, can eat moon cake and admire the full moon with loves one
and family.
Me also can peep at Chang-E underwear only at this time
because the moon is at it;s brightest.

I think among the numerous Taoist events, I would select this one too, it is a joyous occasion.

So, what are the chances of a Public Holiday for this event becoming a reality? What are the things that have to be done for the gov't of Sg to give this some consideration?

Cheers!

Vesak & Deepavali - Indian
Puasa & Haji - Malay
Chinese New Year - Chinese
Good Friday & Christmas - Others

Looks pretty fair to me - 2 days for each race.

Erh!, the Taoist have so many gods...almost every month of the year, will be a Public Holiday, the entire 7th month of the Lunar Calendar also??!!:p

Are you sure about this on thaipusam? Goddamn it so it shows that kelings are violent by nature. Public holiday and they start fighting no wonder they didn't allow the drumming. Opps that racism again.

As if religion plays any part in whether one can get lucky numbers or not.

I think that Hedge is right. Thaipusam used to be official public holiday. But there were lots of fights at Sembawang and Serangoon, gory bloody ones. They still allow the devotee procession but degazetted it as public holiday so that not so many Indians can attend. I think that should be early 90s.

May i know what's the purpose of fighting especially from what i understand about thaipusam it's about cleansing the mind and all that hocus pocus hence all the piercings.

I understand that the devotees supporters will actually challenge one another to see who can chant, cheer and drum louder to further spur their devotees into continuing the walk. I didn't know they would actually get into fights and all that.

If chinese ppl did that during tang kee or whatever chinese festival ppl would be calling them barbarians and in fact chinese get called names despite not indulging in such behavior and it was the kelings own behavior that led to their festival not becoming a public holiday and not due to racism which many ppl believe it to be.

All religious activities, whether Christian, Taoist, Budhhist, Muslim or Hindu, are barbarically idiotic whether violent or not. The Thaipusam fightings were usually due to Indian gangs trying to outdo and outchant each other. Also because of traffic accidents when non-Indians were involved. The drivers were pulled out of their cars and bashed up.

I disagree with you. You won't see such stuff on chinese festivities. I know that many chinese gang members join lion dance crews for eg. Yet you won't see such type of blood shed among each other. Takashimaya holds some annual lion dance competition i have never seen chinese gang members beating each other up.

It's plain obvious that the violence is only solely on kelings.

It's plain obvious you're siao or bookworm little kid. Chinese 7th moon and funerals all parangs and fights from I was kid to teenager. You think only Indians can fight? Chinese can fight to hell too. Lion dance troops are the worst. All are gangsters. You think they don't fight? What a bookworm you are. They state place and time, then bring barang-barang and parang-parang to fight it out. They don't even need a festival as excuse. Anytime can find disagreement to fight and chop.

Mistake here.

Moon cake festival isn't a Taoist event - it is a Chinese event.

Cheers!
