Public help apprehend snatch thief

SINGAPORE - A 21-year-old snatch theft suspect was arrested by the police with the help of members of the public.
The man had allegedly snatched a mobile phone from a 27-year-old man in a park near the Block 171 Boon Lay Drive.
The victim shouted for help as he chased the man.
Though the victim had lost sight of the alleged snatch thief, two other people who had heard his cries for help were able to catch up with the man and tried to detain him.
However, he managed to break free and ran up Block 171.
Police officers who arrived at scene were able to get a description of the suspect from members of the public, and proceeded to block off all exit points from the block.
They soon found the suspect on a staircase landing on the 11th floor and were able to recover the mobile phone from him.
If found guilty, he can be jailed up to seven years and is liable to caning as well.
