Residents in Punggol yesterday were greeted with brown water coming from their taps in the afternoon.
While many residents were worried about the safety of the water, PUB has insisted that it is OK to drink.
They explained that the discolouration was caused by the re-suspension of mineral sediments in the pipes.
The minerals that are added to tap water in Singapore had built up at the bottom of the main water pipes over time and when PUB did some works on valves on a nearby water main, the sediments mixed with the water again.
While the brown water is unsightly, it is just filled with the regular minerals that are usually in our tap water so the water is still ok to drink, explained PUB.

I didn't know rust is a suspended mineral sediment.

I think we can export our very own bottled mineral water, naturally fortified with minerals. Huge money to be made.
