Singapore’s PSB Academy on recruitment drive in Sarawak

Posted on December 10, 2011, Saturday

SIBU: Productivity Standard Board (PSB) Academy Singapore is offering quality, yet affordable studies overseas.

Speaking at a press conference yesterday, PSB Academy international students recruitment executive James Khong Boon Kiat said PSB was set up in 1964 as the National Productivity Board (NPB).

He said NPB was established as part of the country’s plan of survival – which was through education.

“Until now, we have more than 45 years of history; and last year, PSB Academy was awarded the best private school in Singapore, which was the best education experience award by the Singaporean government,” he added.

He said the academy aimed at enabling everyone to have a higher education.

PSB Academy, according to Khong, is highly recognised by employers in Singapore.

“Based on a survey last year under the Job Central, which is the largest online recruitment, we are the top 3 most preferred schools for hiring, and we are also the number one most preferred for Diploma programme in Singapore,” he said.

PSB Academy has several university partners in Australia and the UK.

“With PSB Academy, students can study in Singapore at a much cheaper cost yet with the same syllabus with other university partners.

“I can say it is 50 per cent cheaper in Singapore than in Australia for taking the same course.”

According Khong, the minimum qualification for the diploma course is five credits in SPM, and for a degree course, it is four credits in STPM.

“However, those obtaining 5B3 in the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) and 4B in the STPM may enter year two in the degree course,” he said.

PSB Academy also provides career service for international students in assisting them to find jobs.

“Ninety-five per cent of Malaysian students actually secured job placements in Singapore because apparently the employers in Singapore know that Malaysians are both capable and hard working,” he pointed out.

In terms of salary, he said those holding bachelor degree could earn between S$2,000 and S$2,500.

PSB Academy has recently entered university partnership with the Auckland University of Technology (AUT).

Classes under AUT start in April 2012.

Meanwhile, the ML Education Service holds an education fair – the Sarawak ML Education Fair – at the Premier Hotel here today (Dec 10).

Similar fairs will be held at Dragon Inn in Sarikei on Dec 11, Parkcity Everly Hotel in Bintulu on Dec 12 and Hotel Grand Continental in Kuching on Dec 13.

All fairs start from noon until 4pm.

Education promoters from various institutions in the UK, Singapore, Russia, China and Malaysia are on hand to answer visitors’ queries.

The participating institutions include the University of Central Lancashire (UK), PSB Academy (Singapore), Dimensions International College (Singapore), Taylor’s University, HELP University, INTI International University and Colleges, APPIT/UCTI, KDU University College, and many more.

Re: PSB Academy promises jobs for Malaysian students during recruitment drive in Sara

CASE and CPE should look into this spurious claim by PSB Academy and James Khong!

PSB Academy was corporatised in 2001 out of PSB, so its history and track record really started from this date, and not the full 45 years as claimed.

Before 2001, it was merely a centre within PSB/NPB known as IPT, which mostly conducted productivity training (which it doesnt do now). How can a past that consisted of productivity trg be projected into competence in higher education???

Even if you go by the year in which IPT was set up, it was 1988. That couldnt be 45 years history?

Such gobbledygook and false advertising is grossly unfair to the many other private schools out there. Really, CPE and the Advertising agency ought to sit up and scrutinised their practices. this is unscrupulous using the whole hisotry of NPB/PSB.
