Protect 377A Townhall Attracts Over 1,200 Attendees From All Walks Of Life

Just like the death penalty which has been garnering significant controversy, Section 377A of Singapore’s penal code is a polarising subject that divides many Singaporeans.

Though there are many who wish for its repeal, there are also those calling to preserve it.

Recently, some 1,200 individuals from the latter camp gathered for a ‘Protect Singapore Townhall’ in support of the preservation of 377A.

Dubbing members of the other camp as an “intolerant, vocal minority”, the organisers said they will no longer be silent.

Protect 377A townhall featured ex-LGBT members

On Saturday (22 Jul) afternoon, Mr Mohamed Khair and Mr Jason Wong – presumably the organisers of the event – took to Facebook to acknowledge the 1,200 Singaporeans who attended the event, which took place at an undisclosed location and date.

The crowd apparently comprised people from all walks of life, who gathered for the same agenda — to protect family, marriage, their freedom of conscience, and their children.

The pair shared that folks in favour of Section 377A have been “relatively restrained” by opposers whom they described as,

An intolerant, vocal minority that seeks to overturn the order in all areas of society.
Rather than engaging supporters “with good faith”, they claimed that those against 377A have been referring to them as “bigots” or “haters”.

Said they will no longer remain silent

Declaring that they “will be silent no more”, 377A supporters demonstrated their strength in numbers at the townhall.

They made their intentions clear, which is for the Government to maintain the status quo. To them, in order to do that, Section 377A must remain.

They did, however, mention a condition that could make its repeal possible, which is when:
[T]here are adequate safeguards for our marriages, families and freedom of conscience. This includes enshrining man-woman marriage in the constitution.
Mr Khair and Mr Wong expressed their happiness with the large turnout, which they said included over a dozen former members of the local LGBT community. These individuals apparently shared their experiences during the event.

Originally on an invite-only basis, the pair claimed that the event had an overwhelming response. Hundreds of people ended up on a waitlist and Eventbrite even allegedly removed their listing five days prior.

Calling on fellow Singaporeans to join their cause, Mr Wong and Mr Khair said that keen parties can contact them at [email protected].

Let’s engage in cordial discussions

Section 377A of our constitution will likely remain a touchy subject for the near future.

While it’s only natural for us to hold different views, it’s important not to let such issues divide our society. Rather than be at loggerheads with each other, we should have cordial discussions so we can arrive at a consensus.

Let’s hope that more constructive developments regarding this matter will emerge as time passes.

Lesbios who have experienced the power of a good fuck may be transformed back into a woman. I have seen so many cases. My friend humped one butch who was screaming in bed and squirted. After that, she kept her hair long and became feminine again. She has a pretty face and a nice ass. My friend fucked her for a good 4 years before ditching her. Later on, she got married to another guy and have two kids.

On one side, you have those who believe in the 'sanctity' of 'holy matrimony'. On the other side, you have a bunch of faggots who believe marriage is a 'civil right' which must include themselves.

Both groups of people are morons. Marriage is a business contract under law, nothing more. If you want to stay with someone, you do not need to go to ROM to 'solemnize' it.

looking at the way things are going in our society, I predict 377A will be repealed but with much fanfare and political theatric by the PAP ..

it's a known fact that most of the Rainbow Alphabet Soup people in Sinkieland are oppie supporters becos of PAP''s stand on 377A.

I think the PAP in it's desperate attempt to shore up it's vote bank will repeal 377A perhaps before next GE, but they will pull the brakes on same sex marriages.

sure they might lose votes to the anti LGBT but it won't cause a dent in their support ..

infact, I dare say the PAP are going to use this event to lay the foundation for the 377A repeal. just look out for Cobra Shan to make some sort of statement , which will be a subtle condemnation of this event. then the Braddell Presstitutes and MedaCock mouthpieces will start the ball rolling with the narrative .. just watch ..

A three-hour long town hall meeting was held at the Singapore Expo convention centre on June 23 morning to call for Section 377A of the Penal Code to be retained and marriage to be protected.

The event, "Protect Singapore Townhall - Safeguarding Our Future", saw about 1,200 people in attendance, according to its organisers, Jason Wong and Mohammed Khair

Event hired security
Mothership understands that the town hall was conducted under the Chatham House rules, in which participants are free to use the information they received, but neither the identity nor the affiliation of the speakers could be revealed.

In addition, staff from Armour Security were present at the hall.

Attendees were also required to have large bags checked and left outside the hall before entering.

The crowd comprised of mostly middle-aged Singaporeans, as well as a few people who identified as former members of the LGBTQ+ community.

Mothership also understands that pamphlets were circulated, explaining the importance of marriage, the potential outcomes of repealing 377A, and the actions that should be taken in response.

The organisers appeared to be associated with the Protect Singapore website and telegram chat group.

Eventbrite pulled down event's listing
Both Wong and Khair alleged in their Facebook posts:

"Our event was oversubscribed, with hundreds on the waitlist despite attempts to cancel it – Eventbrite pulled our listing just 5 days before without letting us appeal."

They also highlighted:

"We’ve been relatively restrained in the face of an intolerant, vocal minority that seeks to overturn the order in all areas of society – be it marriage, education, businesses, or beliefs, while demonising all those who disagree as “bigots” or “haters,” instead of engaging us with good faith.

We will be silent no more."

The pair further called on the government not to repeal Section 377A until "adequate safeguards" for protecting marriage, families and "freedom of conscience" have been put in place, including the definition of marriage as between a man and a woman in the constitution.

Here are their Facebook posts in full:

Background
The event came in the wake of several events and incidents related to the repeal of 377A and the LGBTQ+ community.

In February this year, the Court of Appeal, led by the Chief Justice, ruled that the law was retained, but cannot be used to prosecute two consenting male adults engaged in a sexual act in a private place.

In June, observers noticed that both the ruling People's Action Party MP and the opposition Workers' Party MP had attended this year's Pink Dot event.

On June 29, Law and Home Affairs Minister K Shanmugam told the BBC that the government was in "deep consultations with stakeholders, including (the) LGBTQ+ community, as well as others".

Recently, a school counsellor at Hwa Chong Institution (HCI) was suspended after showing inaccurate content about the LGBTQ+ community at a sex education talk.

Were you there at the meeting? Did you sign up to be a Crusader against faggots and bapoks?
if he does that then you will label.him an intolerant Jihadist ..

For me, though I don't support the Rainbow Alphabet Soup people.. I won't waste my time attending such Townhalls ..

The PAP politicised this issue just as it politicised the hijab issue.

Now the PAP had to lick its own spit and compromise on the hijab issue.

not surprised the PAP will compromise on 377A ..

Politics is after all, the art of compromise ..
