Prison Sentences in Robbers-Disguised-as-Cops Case

NEW YORK April 5, 2014
Associated Press

Three black men who authorities say disguised themselves in a New York armed robbery to look like white police officers have each been sentenced to 32 years in prison.

A federal judge on Friday sentenced the three, who were convicted last year for the 2012 heist that prosecutors say was inspired by the Ben Affleck movie "The Town." The men reportedly got the special-effects masks from a company that's worked on movies such as "Wolverine."

Prosecutors say the men stole more than $200,000 from a Pay-O-Matic check-cashing business in Queens. They say that just like in the movie, the men poured bleach on the scene and told employees details of their lives.

The Daily News reported that the three plan to appeal.
