I remember many years back some opposition figure said teo chee hean came from a very wealthy background and did not need the scholarship. Fast forward a few years and guess what? Teo's son "won" a top govt scholarship too!

it’s skewed against “non-elites” and “commoners” as these million-dollar ministars’ kids are sheltered, protected, and tutored by top (private) educators. moreover, the scholarship evaluation committee members can never be impartial nor unbiased when they see names and family backgrounds and compare with “unknowns” who are equally accomplished.
