打遍亚欧非，“战无不胜”的印度军队

其实当时从印军的角度出发，印度还真的敢和中国碰一碰，因为当时的印军可是一支打遍亚欧非大陆，连德国名将隆美尔都是手下败将，从无败绩的王牌部队。
18世纪中叶，英国人来到南亚次大陆，最终印度全境沦为了英国的殖民地。经过英国人在印度的经营，印度逐渐成为了大英帝国之下忠实的一份子。

当时英国本土人口、资源、财力有限，不可能全都派本土英军驻扎在广袤的印度，于是英国人直接招募当地的印度人当兵，指挥权则控制在英国军官手里。甚至在全球其他地区有战事时还会派英属印度军队到世界各地去打仗。
第二次鸦片战争就有印度军队的影子，八里桥之战大家一定有所耳闻。当时清军统帅僧格林沁率领大军在北京八里桥一带阻击英法联军。
当时英法联军由步兵、炮兵和骑兵组成，大约8000人，其中骑兵约1500人，包括英国女王近卫龙骑兵团、英属印度旁遮普普罗比骑兵团、英属印度费恩骑兵团和法属北非骑兵团，其中两个骑兵团都是由印度士兵组成。

第二次世界大战时期，一开始英国人并没有想把英印军拉到欧洲战场，但是随着战事进行，英国越来越难以维持，不得不扩大英属印度陆军的规模派往前线作战，比如说第三次缅甸战役中，平均一支英国部队由1个英国师、3个英属非洲师和5个印度师组成。

英国在北非的行动中就有相当数量的印度军队，最有名的就是被印军称为“红鹰师”的第四步兵师。1939年印度第四步兵师在埃及成立，第四步兵师下辖两个由印度士兵组成的旅，不过其主要军官仍由英国人出任。

那印度这些久经战阵的王牌师去哪了？
我们之前提到印度的王牌师——第四步兵师就是此次中印战争中的印军主力，下辖两个旅，分别是第5旅和第7旅，这两个旅也是号称“打满北非”的王牌旅。
