So sad to see glorious Yangtze theatre go

Once a cinema famous for showing R-rated movies, Yangtze Theatre seems to have shut its doors for good. STOMPer Ray visited Pearl's Centre recently and was saddened by the closure of the iconic Singapore movie theatre.

Built in the 1970's, Yangtze theatre attracted large crowds of kung-fu movie fans.

It was only much later on that the cinema became more well-known for its selection of R-rated adult movies.

STOMPer Ray remembers the theatre in its glory days and was sad to see that the space which the historical establishment once occupied is now replaced by a coffee shop.

He says:

"One of Singapore's icons, the Yangtze Theatre, has closed down.

"I only realised this after I was directed to the fourth floor coffee house, which was previously located at the ground floor.

"I was reminded of the past glory of this theatre when I passed by the theatre.

"Now the fourth level is occupied by a coffee house and a KTV lounge.

"This theatre was infamous for it's R-rated movies. Now the theatre is closed".
