A disturbing rumor has surfaced on the internet suggesting that the PRC student community in National University of Singapore (NUS) is planning a mass protest at the NUS Administration Office, should PRC scholar Sun Xu be expelled.
Sun Xu the PRC scholar, is scheduled to appear before a NUS disciplinary committee for his remark on a Chinese forum whereby he posted there are “more dogs than humans in Singapore”, which caused a massive outcry among Singaporeans calling on NUS to revoke his scholarship and sent him back to China.
In the same posting on renren.com, Sun Xu also called Singaporean uncles “瘪三”, which is a derogatory term typically used to describe the underclass bums in the society.
The rumor, which originated from a little-known blog using a sub-domain at wordpress.com has spread through the internet like wildfire. Within a day, it is now widely circulated on major forums like HWZ, CNA, and SBF.
According to the posting that was widely circulated, a netizen named “Bujang Teruna” reportedly said that the PRC student community in the NUS is discussing Sun Xu’s issue and is planning to protest at the NUS Administration Office should Sun Xu be expelled.
When TR Emeritus (TRE) ran a check, the claims of support for Sun Xu appears to be true, evident from the posting on his Facebook.
One of Sun’s friends posted on his Facebook page asked if the situation is indeed that serious, while another told Sun, “Love you still! ”
Sun Xu, who has since apologized for his “insensitive and inappropriate” remark, recently sought help from the Chinese embassy in Singapore, which has advised Sun to apologize while calling on all PRC students to abide by the laws in the countries that they reside in.
Meanwhile, more rumors have surfaced on the internet, suggesting that Sun Xu comes from a wealthy and influential family in Suzhou, with his father being a senior official from the provincial Communist Party.
Expressing concern with the rumor, a TRE reader wrote in to urge fellow readers with the facts to make a police report. He also urge the police to take preventive action.
Our safety and security is at risk and I urge SPF to arrest them immediately on grounds of having intentions to potentially damage Singapore’s safety and security.
We are seeing a grave danger posed by foreigners in Singapore. Its is the duty of the SPF to uphold law and order.
Lee Kuan yew once mentioned: “If I have to shoot 200000 students to save China from another 100 years of disorder, so be it.”
We need to save Singapore, not China now.
Although Mr Lee Kuan Yew did say that (quoted above), but Mr Lee also said that Singapore needs “900,000 foreign workers”.
Singaporeans would be seriously daft to expect a few highly sought-after ‘foreign talents’ be ’shot’ to save the dignity of a mere few million “lesser mortals”.
