INGAPORE: A 47-year-old man has been sentenced to six weeks' jail for stealing a bag from a passenger during a SilkAir flight from Cambodia to Singapore.
Wang Liwu, a Chinese national, pleaded guilty to the offence, committed on 18 January.
A cabin crew saw him behaving suspiciously, such as watching passengers as they were putting their belongings in the overhead compartments.
Shortly after the flight left Phnom Penh, Wang removed a laptop bag belonging to a 61-year-old man from an overhead compartment.
An airline staff saw him taking something out of the bag and putting the item in his left pocket.
However, when the plane landed in Singapore, Wang was not carrying the laptop bag.
The airline staff informed the flight captain, who then alerted the airport police.
Wang was later questioned and arrested.
