SINGAPORE: Police said they are investigating a case of snatch theft at Block 88 Redhill Close, which took place at about noon on Tuesday.

The victim, a Chinese woman in her mid 70s, was walking along the block when a man came from behind to snatch her handbag. However, the man was unsuccessful and fled the scene.

He was last seen wearing a light coloured T-shirt, cargo pants and a light-coloured cap.

He is described as having a fair complexion and is about 1.7 metres tall.

Police say they activated the dog unit to help search for the suspect at the said block, but he was nowhere to be found.

Police had cordoned off parts of the area to look for the thief, but removed the cordon afterwards.

Anyone with information on the case can call the police hotline at 1800-2550000.

Can tell the PRC talent is well motivated by Lee Kuan Yew's "spur" remarks. He finally proved himself capable of doing anything and everything under our nose.

This is serious. Could it be the PRCs have gotten wind of intel that Redhill estate is mostly occupied by aged, old and sick people in 1 room flats? And are they targetting them for easy prey?

The SPF better do more patrolling. what are the RCs, CCCs, doing ? arent they forming neighbourhood patrol groups? we need our local triads in that area to do national service to protect local Chinese old folk against these predatory mainland chinks. If nec, take them out.

10 poodles car ??? tsk tsk tsk... I think it is a lot more economical and effective to microchip all PRCs coming into Singapore... can track by GPRS

Thanks to PAP .Foreigners were meant to suppress Singaporean's cocky attitude .
Seems like low value FTs are robbing our old folks and giving us and our police force lots of trouble .

10 mata chias, 2 poodle dogs and neber catch the bugger...first class.

SINGAPORE -The police launched a five-hour manhunt yesterday in Redhill Close, a neighbourhood of mostly elderly folks. More than 20 police officers fanned out in the areas around Block 88, and cordoned off the lift lobby, looking for a snatch-theft suspect at about noon.

At one point, there were as many as 11 police vehicles in the area, including two vans from the Police Dog Unit. Police officers, including several who were in plain clothes, also searched the block, as the suspect was thought to still be in the area.

As officers led dogs around the area to try to sniff out the suspect's trail, more than 100 curious residents crowded around the block, each speculating about what had happened.

Some of them thought that the police were looking for drug traffickers, while others thought a murder had occurred. One of them, a housewife in her 50s who only wanted to be known as Madam Huang, said she heard a commotion at around noon.

She said: "When I came down to find out what happened, I only saw that rubbish bins were knocked over and rubbish was strewn all over the floor. It was very messy."

Mr Tan Swee, 68, a retiree, told Today he saw police officers taking pictures of a pair of spectacles, believed to have been dropped by the suspect when he fled.
The suspect was not found, and the search was called off at around 5pm.

Sorry but I have to scold some vulgarities here. Simi LAN jiao, 22 cops failed to catch 1 snatch thief with the whole area surrounded???

Sorry hor... It's 22 police & 2 dogs... How can you forget the contribution from our loved animals...

No wonder they can't find him. The dogs are trained to be aim at locals :D

I bet Singapore has so many apartments. many murderers and illegal over stayers and illegal workers are even possible .

Thanks to PAP policies to screw us .

arrested liao:

but one question, he was arrested in the same block that 10 mata chias and 2 poodles searched in vain the day before...how did the matas missed him? Did they not conduct a house to house search? Or they knock on the door, receiving no reply, moved on?

Is that the SOP? They cannot search the flat becos no warrant? surely if some one saw him running up the block, and with matas jagaing the staircase, he must be surely holed up somewhere inside that block right? Just need to flush him out by whatever means...

SINGAPORE: Police arrested a 52-year-old man on Wednesday morning for suspected snatch theft after a manhunt.

He was arrested after a member of the public provided valuable leads on his identity.

Police said the victim, a 75-year-old woman, was walking at the void deck of Block 88 in Redhill Close at about noon on Tuesday when the suspect came from behind and tried to snatch her handbag.

The suspect failed and fled the scene.

Police officers searched the areas around Block 88 and cordoned off the lift lobby.

At one point, there were over 10 police vehicles in the area, including two vans from the Police Dog Unit.

As officers led dogs around the area to try to sniff out the suspect's trail, curious residents crowded around the block.

The breakthrough came when enquiries with a member of the public provided valuable information about the suspect's identity.

Police arrested the suspect at a unit in Block 88 at about 1.45am on Wednesday.

He will be charged in court on Thursday.
