Chinese jailed over fake parts
LOS ANGELES - A CHINESE businessman who sold phony Cisco computer parts to US buyers has been sentenced to 2 1/2 years in federal prison. The US attorney's office in Los Angeles announced the sentence on Friday against Yongcai Li. He also was ordered to repay nearly US$800,000 (S$1.12 million) to Cisco Systems Inc. Li had a technology company in China. Prosecutors say he obtained counterfeits of Cisco products and shipped them to the United States in 2005 and 2006. The indictment alleges the products had phony Cisco trademarks. Li was arrested in January 2009 while visiting Las Vegas and was sent to Los Angeles for prosecution. He pleaded guilty last fall to a count of trafficking in counterfeit goods and was sentenced on Jan 25. -- AP
