SINGAPORE: A Chinese national was jailed three weeks on Tuesday for using a knife to threaten his ex-girlfriend, whom he thought was having an affair.

Construction worker Shen Jian Hua pointed a knife at the neck of his girlfriend, a sales assistant also from China, on October 2 near Block 207 Boon Lay Place.

The 39-year-old man pleaded guilty to one charge of criminal intimidation while another charge of being armed with an offensive weapon was taken into consideration.

Court documents revealed that Shen met his ex-girlfriend to sort out their relationship around 10.00pm that day.

The court heard that Liu tried to pass him some cash and also end their relationship, but Shen was unwilling. He then took out a knife from his bag and pointed it at her. Shen was restrained by Liu's colleague and arrested later.

The man remained emotionless during sentencing.

For criminal intimidation, he could have been jailed two years and fined.
